MANGALURU: The academic year for third and fifth semester undergraduate courses at Mangalore University (MU)will start on Monday.
Classes for first-semester students began a month ago.
Sources in MU pointed out that there was a request from officials of a certain department to delay the start of classes as the evaluation of the recently concluded semester examinations was not complete.
However, vice-chancellor PS Yadapadithya stressed that classes should begin according to schedule and a delay would cause inconvenience to students and hamper the academic calendar.
Kishore CK, the university registrar, said that all arrangements were in place for starting the third and fifth semesters classes.
The current UG guest teachers have not been relieved of their duties. They will have to attend an interview to be hired for the new academic year.
According to the current academic calendar, the odd semester’s (third and fifth) first internal assessment test is scheduled for the last week of November. There will be a Christmas vacation from December 24 to December 31. The second assessment test will be in the fourth week of January. The semester will end on February 3, 2023. The end-of-semester examination will begin on February 6, 2023.
The syllabus under the NEP for the third semester has been finalised. Jayakara M Bhandary, the principal of the Government First Grade College, Carstreet, said that MU has published the third semester NEP syllabus on its website.
The candidates, depending upon their subjects, have got one or two weeks of holidays after the recent semester examinations. “The semester holidays have been shortened post-Covid to regularise an academic calendar,” he said.
