HYDERABAD: After making biometric attendance mandatory for postgraduate students, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) is now planning to make it mandatory for B Tech students from the academic year 2022-23.
The university is planning to introduce the biometric attendance system (BAS) after the Telangana EAMCET 2022 counselling ends.
“We plan to implement it for the B Tech (first to final year) students after the next batch joins in November,” said M Manzoor Ali, registrar, JNTUH.
The JNTUH has already implementing BAS for faculty and MTech, MPharm, among other post graduate students. Manzoor Ali said that initially, they wantedimplement biometrics and maintain data at the college level.
However, during the pandemic, the same was discontinued by the varsity. The JNTUH officials are planning to make biometric attendance mandatory for postgraduate students again from November.
“They will be asked to upload biometric attendance once in 15 days to our server. It is important that varsity has virtual access to the attendance of students as it will make implementing options like multiple entry and exit easier,” he said.
JNTUH said that faculty members without having minimum biometric attendance will be treated as faculty deficiency.
The varsity asked the colleges to submit their compliance and added that punitive action as per regulations will be initiated against the erring colleges.
