VASCO: Mormugao taluka was hit by acute water scarcity on Monday, forcing people to scour for the precious resource.
In various parts of New Vaddem, Vasco, residents were compelled to hire private tankers for Rs 800-1,000.
The lone PWD tanker at Baina was seen making numerous trips to affected citizens.
People in the remote areas of the taluka had no option but to fetch drinking water from wells.
PWD assistant engineer (water section) Naresh Painginkar told TOI that the problem occured due to a technical fault at the Selaulim water treatment plant.
The taluka was hit due to water shortage since Sunday. Painginkar said that there was a shortfall of around 20 MLD of water on Sunday, and hence the plant could not cater to four constituencies - Vasco, Mormugao, Dabolim and Cortalim.
“We have provided tankers to the affected areas. PWD authorities at the Selaulim plant have rectified the problem and water supply to the entire taluka will be restored in the wee hours of Tuesday,” said Painginkar.
