RANCHI: The Muslim community celebrated Milad-un-Nabi with fervour on Sunday and different parts of the city was filled with the festive spirit.
Police took up elaborate security measures for peaceful celebrations.
Devotees took out processions holding banners and flags in different colonies of the city. One procession was taken out from the Maulana Azad colony to Kanta Toli. Another procession originated from the Kureishi Mohallah, which later merged with the rallies from Lalpur and Tharpakna.
Similar processions were also held in rural areas, including Kanke, Meetha, Chandwe, Konge, Jaipur, Morhabadi and Edalhatu.
During the celebrations, Maulana Qutubuddin Siddiqui of Edar e Sharia threw light on the life of Prophet Mohammad.
He said, “The birth of Prophet Mohammad was like nectar for the world, so we celebrate the occasion. He brought about several social reforms. The processions also promote social harmony.”
The processions, however, were not allowed on the main road of the city because of the prohibitory orders imposed by the administration.
The district administration has imposed Section 144 of CrPC on both sides of the Mahatma Gandhi Road (main road) till 6 am on Monday because of the possibility of law and order issues arising out of large gatherings of devotees and cricket fans coming to the city for the India-South Africa one-day international match.
SP (rural) Naushad Alam said, “An adequate number of policemen along with rapid action police and rapid action force personnel were deployed in various locations given the festivities. Magistrates along with police escorted the processions.”
Meanwhile, assembly speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto released a book titled ‘You will love him, if you know him’ which is based on Prophet Mohammad.
Mahto said Prophet Mohammad spreads the message of peace, equality and social harmony.
