THANE: Over three days after a stone crushing businessman was shot point blank in Kapurbawdi area, the Thane police are struggling to crack the case.
The incident second in two months in the hometown of chief minister Eknath Shinde has triggered fear among the residents here, who are questioning the competence of the law enforcement dealing with such sensitive cases. This is not just a single incident of firing, just close to this incident, last month, another firing was reported over the rivalry in bagging the Mathadi contract and two were arrested in the case.
In this case, it was at around 8.40 pm, on Friday, the victim Sandeep Adsul, was standing outside house near Kapurbawdi area, an unidentified man came near Adsul and fired at him pointblank and fled the scene, the police said.
The single bullet shot fired by the assailant hit the victim on his hip after which he was rushed to a private hospital where he is presently undergoing treatment and his condition is said to be stable.
On the other hand , various wings of crime branch , the local police station claimed that they have not identified the suspect behind the crime. Though the cops informed that financial dispute or a rivalry could be the motive but with the absence of any lead, no arrest has been made so far.
A police officer said that they have rounded couple of people in connection with the case but nothing concrete has come out though the investigators are relying on the technical leads now.
A police officer privy to the probe said that the firing was well planned as in a hazy CCTV footage retrieved which is not so clear a man is seen parking a scooter near his house on the Friday morning.
He kept his scooter althroughout the day. After he shot him he took the scooter away from the spot.
Another cop informed that there is an auto rickshaw involved in the crime and they shall crack the case soon. “We are trying to crack the case and shall nab the accused soon all efforts are being put to crack the case and multiple teams are working on it,” said a senior officer.
The police are simultaneously investigating the technical leads in the case.
