Mumbai News Live Updates Oct 10, 2022: The Election Commission allotted the name Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and flaming torch symbol to the Shiv Sena faction led by former CM Uddhav Thackeray. Meanwhile, the CM Eknath Shinde faction has been asked to submit a new list of symbols.

A day after the Election Commission (EC) of India froze Shiv Sena’s name and bow and arrow poll symbol, party chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday slammed Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Sena faction along with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while terming the poll panel’s order as an “injustice” towards him and the party. In a virtual address to the Sena cadre and people of Maharashtra, Uddhav called the Shinde faction a 40-headed Ravana who took away Lord Rama’s “bow and arrow”, which was also dear to late Sena founder Bal Thackeray.

THE MUMBAI Fire Brigade will on Monday issue a notice to the Rail View Housing society in New Tilak Nagar near Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, where a fire was reported on Saturday afternoon in which six residents were injured and were admitted to a hospital. On Sunday, Hemant Parab, Chief Fire officer of the Mumbai Fire Brigade said, “The building’s firefighting system was not operational at the time of the fire. The fire brigade reached the site of the fire on Saturday and noticed this. On Monday, the fire brigade will issue a notice to the building under Section 6 of the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006.”

Ex-minister Deshmukh gets Mumbai court nod for coronary angiography at private hospital

A special court allowed former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, arrested in a money laundering case, to undergo coronary angiography at a private hospital in Mumbai.

The judge said after the test is done, the veteran politician should be immediately sent back to the jail and asked the prison authorities to submit a report of the heart scan before the court. The court permitted Deshmukh's daughter and wife to remain present with him during hospitalization for the medical test. (PTI)

This is passing phase, Shiv Sena will 'rise like phoenix': MLA Bhaskar Jadhav

Leaders of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction have said the present turmoil in the party is just a passing phase and expressed confidence that the Sena will "rise again like a phoenix".

MLA Bhaskar Yadav of the Uddhav Thackeray faction said the Shiv Sena under the leadership of Thackerays has witnessed several ups and downs. Jadhav claimed the day is not far when Fadnavis will take away Shinde's chair.

Sena MP Vinayak Raut said the efforts by opponents and betrayers to finish off the Sena will not work and the party will once again rise with full zeal.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena deputy leader Sushma Andhare claimed that CM Shinde was just a puppet in the hands of the BJP. (PTI)

Man held for trying to steal ex-Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s phone

A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly trying to steal the phone of former Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who was travelling by train from his hometown of Solapur to Mumbai.

According to the Government Railway Police, Shinde, also a former Maharashtra chief minister, saw a man stealing his phone as he returned from the toilet and the train neared the Dadar station around 6am on October 6. Read more

One held for attack on transgender person, police on the lookout for two more

Police on Monday arrested a transgender person and are on the lookout for a husband-wife duo who allegedly teamed up to attack another transgender person, who identifies as a woman, by forcing her to consume phenyl and slashing her on the back and hand with a blade in a suburban area of the city during the wee hours of Sunday.

The incident took place around 1.45 am as the complainant was walking on the road with her “Guru” when three persons arrived at the spot in a rickshaw and attacked her. While the transgender person caught the complainant's hair, the man held her hand and made her consume phenyl even as his wife assaulted the victim on her back and hand with a blade.

State's net waste of Corbevax doses 14.31 per cent, above 10% permissible limit

Due to the drop in demand for Covid-19 vaccines, Maharashtra’s net waste of Corbevax, India's first indigenously developed RBD protein subunit vaccine, is 14.31 per cent — higher than the estimated allowable vaccine waste of 10 per cent.

Corbevax was introduced on March 16. A total of 17 districts in the state have recorded net vaccine wastage above 15 per cent. The most waste was in Parbhani at 31.14 per cent followed by Palghar (27.64 per cent), Amravati (25.55 per cent), Gondia (25.44 per cent) and Buldhana (22.67 per cent).

Andheri East bypoll will be contested by MVA together: Sena's Anil Parab

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and MLC Anil Parab said the Andheri East bypoll will be fought by the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance together. 'The NCP and Congress have declared their support to the Sena candidate. Our candidate will file the nomination on Thursday and the leaders of all the three parties - Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP - will be there while filing the nomination,' he said.

Shiv Sena has fielded Rutuja Latke for the bypoll.

Congress delegation led by Maharashtra Unit president Nana Patole met Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray promising support to party candidate Rutuja Latke in Andheri East assembly bypoll.

Andheri East bypoll candidate will be announced after alliance is confirmed: Shinde camp's Deepak Kesarkar

The spokesperson for the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction Deepak Kesarkar said that the BJP may have announced a candidate for the Andheri East bypoll, but the final name will only come out once the alliance is confirmed,

"It (candidate's name) will be announced only when both Fadnavis and Shinde along with BJP state president hold a press conference. No decision has yet been taken" Kesarkar said.

CM Shinde-led faction submits choice of symbols, party name; two symbols clash with Uddhav faction's choices

CM Eknath Shinde's faction has approached the Election Commission with its choice of three symbols for the party. The three options of Shinde faction are Rising sun, Trishul (trident) and Mace (gada).

Two of the symbols - rising sun and Trishul - have also been submitted as choices by the Uddhav Thackray-led faction. Additionally, these symbols are also not in the list of free symbols.

The interim name of the party also has name of Balasaheb Thackeray.

Health and Wellness: With broken CT scan machine at BYL Nair Hospital, wait for patients grows longer

Radhika Salve, 43, sustained an injury on October 5 when she fell from a running bus while deboarding. She was rushed to the civic-run tertiary-care hospital—BYL Nair Hospital. After she was admitted, Salve was immediately advised for a CT scan of her brain.

But to her surprise, the doctors informed her she would have to travel four kilometre to a diagnostic centre for the scan. “When I fell down, I brushed my hands and legs. Though I didn’t sustain any fracture, I had badly hurt my head which was painful. So, the doctor asked me to undergo a CT scan. Shinde faction likely to submit Talwar, Trumpet and Gada as choice for symbol

Eknath Shinde-led faction of the Sena held a meeting at the residence of the Chief Minister to decide on their poll symbol late on Sunday night.

While different options were discussed at the meeting, nothing was finalised. A leader said since the faction was following the ideology of Hindutva, symbols like Tutari (trumpet), talwar (sword) and gada (blunt mace) were shortlisted. The final call in the regard will be taken on Monday morning and options submitted to the poll panel by 1pm, the leader added. Read more here

FIR against Uddhav loyalist Chandrakant Khaire for ‘objectionable’ language against CM Shinde

Police on Sunday filed a first information report (FIR) against Shiv Sena leader Chandrakant Khaire in Aurangabad city of Maharashtra for allegedly making objectionable remarks against state Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, an official said.

The case was registered at Satara police station in Aurangabad based on a complaint lodged by Rajendra Janjal, the district unit chief of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), he said.

Khaire, a former Member of Parliament from the Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency, is a loyalist of Uddhav Thackeray, who heads another faction of the Shiv Sena.
