Machine blast leaves 7 factory workers injured
Ludhiana: At least seven workers of an aluminium factory at Rangiyan village suffered injuries after a blast in a machine used for pressing scrap early on Saturday morning. Alerted by the explosive sound, village residents rushed to the factory and informed the police. Meanwhile, other factory workers had rushed their injured colleagues to hospital.
The injured have been identified as Durgesh, Ravi Kumar, Ram Babu, Dalip Kumar, Dalip Gupta, Shivam and Ravi Dubey. Durgesh and Ravi Kumar suffered severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Assistant commissioner of police, south, Vaibhav Sehgal said that the incident took place in a factory converting aluminium scrap into logs. Factory workers lived on the premises. On Saturday, at around 6:30am, when workers were in the factory pressing aluminum scrap to melt it, a blast took place in the machine. Seven workers suffered injuries and were rushed to hospital.
ACP Sehgal said the forensic team and ballistic team is on the way to Ludhiana from Mohali and Phillaur. He added that further action would be taken after statements of the injured were recorded.
