Sawant ignorant, should reads books on Independence, Liberation, says Congress
Panaji: CM Pramod Sawant has poor knowledge of India’s Independence struggle and the efforts to liberate Goa, Congress said on Sunday. State party president Amit Patkar said that Sawant needs to stop “taking lessons of hate, communal conflicts and divisive politics” from the RSS, and instead read books about India’s post-Independence history.
Patkar was reacting to Sawant’s statement in Udupi, Karnataka, where the latter said that Congress should have conducted the Bharat jodo yatra in 1947.
“What can you expect from a person who was born in 1973, and who spent his time in shakhas taking lessons of hate, communal conflicts and divisive politics,” said Patkar. “He must learn the history of India to understand the contribution of Congress to the Independence of India and Liberation of Goa.”
“I advise the chief minister to read books like ‘The story of my experiments with truth’ by Mahatma Gandhi, ‘The discovery of India’ by Pandit Nehru and other books on the Independence movement and Liberation of Goa. This will help him enlighten himself with true knowledge of history, and also save him embarrassment,” said Patkar.
Patkar said that when former Congress president Rahul Gandhi concludes his Kanyakumari to Kashmir ‘padhyatra’, it will mark the ‘antim yatra of BJP’ in India. Patkar said that Sawant and BJP appear to be rattled by people’s participation in the yatra.
Gandhi is walking across the country in a bid to spread the message of communal harmony, peace and unity, said Patkar. “Lakhs of people are joining the yatra everyday. This march is going to be a turning point in Indian politics,” said Patkar.
