BHUBANESWAR: Most places of south coastal Odisha are likely to witness light to moderate rain on Sunday under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, said an IMD forecast on Saturday.
There are chances of heavy rain at isolated places in Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at isolated places in select districts and rain would continue for two to three days.
“The monsoon is normal over the state now. The rainfall activity would continue over several parts for the next three to four days under the system’s influence,” said Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist of regional IMD centre here. He said till now there is no indication of withdrawal of monsoon in the next few days.
Former director of regional IMD centre Sarat Chandra Sahu said the forecast of sporadic rainfall activity with spell wise intense rain would continue till October 12. Thereafter it’s intensity may decrease and continue for two to three days more, he said.
Sahu said there are no indications of withdrawal of monsoon from the state till October 16. Many places in the state received rain in the last 24 hours, according to the IMD report recorded on Saturday. Padampur in Bargarh district received highest of 40 mm.
