AHMEDABAD: It was a shocker of sorts for the parents of Vandana (name changed), 17, who went to a police station in a western city part to report her missing. Vandana was already there, caught by a shopkeeper for shoplifting!
According to Abhayam 181 helpline, parents of Vandana are government servants and are at high positions. As Vandana was born after nearly a decade of their marriage, she was brought up with all her demands being met. The parents claimed that it spoilt the child as she started spending more and more time with her friends.
"Tired of her behaviour, the parents would lock her up in home upon her return from school, and would be allowed once they are back. It drove her to mobile phone where she would keep glued to screen almost the entire day," said a counsellor. "It led to confiscation of her phone too. On Friday, she jumped from her balcony and managed to get out from home. She then allegedly visited two adjoining shops and stole a phone and a few garments. She was however spotted and was held."
The helpline said that both the girl and her parents were counselled.TNN
