PATNA: State BJP chief Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal on Saturday said that his party would contest by-elections to both the assembly seats of Mokama and Gopalganj, and the party will strive to win them.
Jaiswal also said the BJP's state election committee and core committee, at their meeting held on Saturday, discussed all the probable names and also zeroed in on the winning candidates who would be fielded in the fray.
The panel of names shortlisted for the two seats would be sent to the central election committee for the final selection of the two candidates by the parliamentary board.
While the Mokama seat fell vacant after sitting RJD MLA Anant Singh was convicted in a case and also served a jail term by the court, the by-election to the Gopalganj seat has been necessitated after the death of JD(U) MLA Subhash Singh.
"We will put up our candidates at both the seats. As far as Mokama is concerned, our party candidate will definitely win. There is so much popular anger against CM Nitish Kumar, since nothing seems to have been done for the development of the constituency," Jaiswal said.
That apart, Jaiswal took a jibe at Nitish saying that he decided to observe the death anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan (JP), as he did here on Saturday, because he did not want to join Union home minister Amit Shah in celebrating the birth anniversary of JP at his native village Sitabdiara in Saran district on October 11. "He (Nitish) is afraid of the popularity of Shah," Jaiswal said.
Jaiswal also said that the BJP is geared up to win 36 of the 40 parliamentary seats during the 2024 parliamentary elections. "
Bihar will be second to UP in sending maximum number of BJP MPs to the Lok Sabha to make Narendra Modi the country's PM, again," he said.
