Margao: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has offered to join BJP’s door-to-door campaign and corner meetings for the Davorlim ZP bypoll.
“Many people from this area are familiar to me, I have done the work of many people from there, so I have a good relationship with the people there, and therefore do take advantage (of my services),” Kamat publicly told the party’s election managers.
The Congress-turned BJP MLA echoed BJP general secretary Damodar Naik’s view when he said that, in order to ensure the development of a constituency, it was essential for local bodies to be “in our control”.
In a bid to enforce a sense of camaraderie with the saffron parivar, Kamat recalled his old ties with BJP as he invoked the memory of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan who he said was present for a campaign meeting for BJP’s Navelim candidate in the 1994 assembly polls. “It hasn’t been easy for BJP to win the Navelim seat since then, and therefore Ulhas Tuyekar’s victory in the last election is remarkable,” Kamat said.
BJP general secretary Narendra Sawaikar urged the party workers to work hard to ensure that the ZP seat that was won by the party for two successive terms is retained. “The winning tradition should continue,” he said.
