Maharashtra: Pharmacist duped of Rs 3 lakh in fake American dollar exchange scam

THANE: A medical shop owner was cheated of Rs 3 lakh by two persons including a woman after luring him to give him a bundle of 1673 dollars in exchange of the Indian currency.
The police said the complainant owns a medical shop in Ulhasnagar and a few days back a customer came to his medical shop and his friend saw a dollar in his wallet and asked him about the source.
The accused told him that one of her aunt was working with a woman as a maid and as she passed away she saw these dollars and one of the dollars was just a sample and there were a couple of them with him. Later the accused said that he may sell such dollars if he is interested he can sell it to them and called them to a spot in Diva.
The man gave a sample of 20 dollars which the complainant got encashed with Indian Rs 1640 , said a police officer.
The complainant got convinced and went to Diva for taking the 1673 dollars and took Rs 3 lakh with a throwaway cost. The accused lady took the cash and gave a bundle of papers with a dollar on top of it . Later, when he saw it and found the bundle of papers.
The victim tried to search for the accused but in vain and registered a case with the Mumbra police station under section 420 and 34 of Indian penal code.
In a similar case, an auto driver was duped by a passenger in a similar fashion. “A total of five accused took Rs 3 lakh in exchange of 643 dollars and was duped as he found a paper bundle beneath the dollar note,” said a police officer.
