Rajkot: Five people, who confined a builder’s 14-year-old son in a room and looted cash and valuables worth Rs 35 lakh from the house were caught while a massive manhunt for two others, suspected to be in possession of a portion of the booty, is underway.
In less than 24 hours of the sensational loot from the bungalow in the city’s posh Indira Circle area, police nabbed the husband-wife duo of Nepal and three others from temple town Becharaji in Mehsana district late on Thursday night.
The faces of four suspects were captured in the CCTV cameras and they were widely circulated among cops across Gujarat.
Anil and his wife, natives of Nepal and two others, were detained. The couple was employed as househelps by the builder Prabhat Sindhav 45 days ago.
“Anil, along with other suspects, had been plotting to loot a big amount for the last two or three weeks. It was a pre-planned robbery. He also involved some other people known to him and kept a close eye on the activities of the Sindhav family. Four people went inside the bungalow for robbery on Thursday morning while three others were waiting outside,” said a senior police officer.
After the loot, they escaped in a rickshaw to Dhebar Chowk from where they hired a car for Rajasthan. “They did not choose public transport and were aware that the police would release their pictures at railway stations and bus depots,” he said.
Police recovered cash and jewellery of around Rs 20 lakh along with some foreign currency which they had looted. The remaining valuables are cash and ornaments are in the possession of two others who are at large.
They tied up Sindhav’s son and sealed his mouth with tape. In all, they took away Rs 35.40 lakh including Rs 10 lakh cash. Sindhav and his wife and gone to drop their daughter at Ahmedabad airport as she was flying abroad for studies.
