GANDHINAGAR: Modhera, famous for the Sun temple, but it will get another distinction when PM Narendra Modi will declare it India's first round-the-clock solar-powered village on Sunday.
In a joint effort of the Union and state governments, Rs 80 crore has been spent on the project where more than 1,300 1-kV solar rooftop systems have been installed on houses, reducing the electricity bills of residents considerably.
The electricity requirements of the entire temple complex have also been shifted to solar power. The government allotted 12 hectares of land for the project. The heritage lighting and 3D projection at the Sun temple will use solar energy. The 3D projection, which will operate in the evenings, will educate visitors on Modhera's history.
