Indraprastha Gas (IGL) has increased compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) prices in Delhi and adjoining areas by ₹3 per unit.
CNG now costs ₹78.61 per kg in Delhi and ₹81.17 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. PNG, used for cooking, costs ₹53.59 per standard cubic metre in Delhi and ₹53.46 per standard cubic metre in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.
This is the first price hike since May by IGL, which is facing an acute increase in input cost. The price of domestic natural gas, which IGL receives for further distribution to households and CNG vehicle drivers, increased 40% to $8.57 per mmBtu in the six-monthly revision from October 1.
To fully pass on this cost, IGL will need to raise CNG prices by another ₹ 10-12 per kg.
Other city gas distributors too have increased CNG prices this month in their respective licensed areas to partly offset the increase in input cost.
