KANPUR: A pet Rottweiler was confiscated after it bit a class IX student in the posh Lajpat Nagar of the city on Friday. After two back-to-back separate attacks by Pitbulls, this is the first incident of a Rottweiler attack in the city.
Sarthak, 14-year-old son of a tarpaulin businessman Mohit Seth, resident of Lajpat Nagar Society, is a student of class IX in DPS Azad Nagar. Mohit Seth told media persons that the incident took place on Friday morning, when his son Sarthak was waiting for the school bus. In the meantime, the guard of a neighbour came there with the Rottweiler. Sometime later, the dog somehow got itself released and attacked Sarthak, biting him in the leg.
The child was rescued after the dog was hit with sticks by the locals of the area. "We then rushed Sarthak to a nursing home located in Swaroop Nagar," said family members of the boy. After which, Mohit Seth complained to the additional municipal commissioner Roli Gupta.
On the complaint of the boy's father, a team of Kanpur Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot and confiscated the dog. It was taken to the government veterinary hospital in Phoolbagh.
Municipal corporation's chief veterinary officer Dr. RK Niranjan said that after getting information, the team confiscated and brought the dog to the hospital in Phoolbagh. "The dog owner will be fined Rs 5,000," the officer added. Two back-to-back incidents of Pitbull attacks were reported from the city recently.
In the Sarsaiya Ghat area of Kotwali police station area, a cow was attacked by a Pitbull. A report was registered against the dog owner in the incident. Similarly, in the Juhi police station area, a Pitbull attacked the middle-aged man. In this incident, the man had lodged a report against his niece at Juhi police station.
