Man arrested for killing stray dog in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police have arrested a construction worker for killing a stray dog.
The arrested man has been identified as J Krishnan alias Athirasa Karthik, 27, of Chinnanna Chettiyar Street at Velandipalayam.
He was booked under sections 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 (1) (a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
P Lakshmi, 46, a labourer, was taking care of a stray dog. Karthik, who was under the influence of alcohol, killed the dog by hitting its head with a stone on Tuesday afternoon. Lakshmi lodged a complaint with the Saibaba Colony police who registered a case against Karthik on Wednesday.
A police team led by sub-inspector Karthik arrested the accused on Friday evening. He was produced before a judicial magistrate. The court released him on bail.
