Karnataka: Cops award youths who saved old woman
BELAGAVI: The Belagavi superintendent of police has felicitated two youths for saving a 90-year-old woman who had attempted suicide by jumping to the Malaprabha river On Thursday.
Aizaz Marihal and Juber Befari from Parishwad in Belagavi’s Khanapur taluk saw the woman roaming around the Malaprabha bridge before she jumped into the water. They dived in too and saved her. They also admitted her to a hospital.
On Friday, SP Sanjeev Patil called the youths to his office and felicitated them for their bravery. Juber said he was going to the field when he saw the woman walking close to the river. “I jumped in and one other friend also jumped in and saved her.”
Human life “is precious, whether it is my child or an old person. Humanity must be our main life goal,” he said.
SP Patil said: “We appreciated the youths’ act. They never thought about themselves when they saved the woman. Hence to make awareness of their bravery, we felicitated them. In this generation, most of people try to shoot the incident on their mobile but these youth shown that humanity is the ultimate goal.”
