Noida: Two criminals were arrested on Friday after two different shootouts in the city, said police. Both were shot in their legs in the retaliatory firing by police. The first shootout took place near the powerhouse in Film City area, from where police managed to nab Danish alias Cheetah, a resident of Mayur Vihar in Delhi, who was on a bike.
“Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted Danish — a member of Chhenu gang — near Brahmaputra market and asked him to stop. He didn’t stop, tried to flee towards Film City and opened fire at police. The police team retaliated. He was shot in his leg,” said Ashutosh Dwivedi, additional DCP, Noida. “Danish is a sharp shooter of Chhenu gang and was wanted in over two dozen cases of loot, extortion, attempt to murder and other heinous crimes in Delhi-NCR. He has several cases of loot registered against him in Sector 20 police station. He has been admitted to hospital for treatment. One of his accomplices managed to flee the spot taking advantage of darkness. Efforts are being made to arrest him as well,” said Dwivedi.
In the second gunfight that took place near a sewer plant in Parthala Chowk area, a criminal, Harjeet Singh, wanted in several mobile and chain snatching cases and other street crimes was arrested by police.
Cops also seized illegal arms, stolen mobile phones and a high-end sports bike. “Harjeet along with his accomplice Arun used to commit street crimes, including chain snatching, mobile snatching. They used to target pedestrians. We are trying to find their involvement in other such crimes,” said Dwivedi.
