RAJKOT: A residential society of plush bungalows on the 150 feet Ring Road on Thursday woke up to an alarming incident of loot carried out by four people, including two recently hired domestic helps, who tied up his 14-year-old son in a room and sealed his mouth with a tape.
Holding him at knifepoint, the four broke the safe in his parents' room and took away Rs 10 lakh cash and ornaments worth Rs 35 lakh.
The loot came to light when the boy Jash Sindhav's 72-year-old grandfather Devayat went to wake him up as he did not come down from his room on the third floor. Jash's father Prabhat Sindhav and mother had left for Ahmedabad on Wednesday to drop his sister at the airport as she was going abroad for studies. The family lives in Royal Park near Indira Circle.
Sindhav had recently employed a husband-wife duo from Nepal as house helps and given them accomodation in the servant's quarter in the parking lot.
"As Jash was alone, he had called a friend for a sleepover. The friend left at around 6am for school and left the door of the bungalow open. The four entered the house thereafter," said Sudhirkumar Desai, deputy commissioner of police, zone 2.
They entered Jash's room, woke him up and brandished a knife. "They tore a pillow and tied him up using the cloth and sealed his mouth using tape. They asked for the keys of the safe locker but Jash was not aware. The four then went into his parents room, broke the locker and took away the cash and valuables," said Desai.
Jash's grandfather has age-related hearing problems and his physical activity is also limited. He was sleeping in his room on the ground floor. Neighbours untied Jash and alerted the police.
Late in the night, four suspects seen in the CCTV footage outside the bungalow were detained in Becharaji town of north Gujarat.
Parthrajsinh Gohil, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said, "The four left the society in a rickshaw and were seen using different vehicles later.
