CHENNAI: Southern Railway has formed special teams to seize firecrackers from railway passengers and parcels at important stations in Chennai division.

Carrying inflammable and explosives articles is a punishable offence. Those who carry firecrackers can be punished with up to three years’ jail term or fine up to Rs 1,000 or both as per the Railways Act 1989, according to a press release.
Chennai division has appealed to people to alert railway helpline 139 if they find anyone carrying firecrackers on trains.
