The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is expected to garner revenue of ₹5,000 crore in 2022-23 after the sale of multiple large land parcels that it's in the process of auctioning, Ved Parkash Dudeja, vice chairman of the authority, told ET.
In the first half of 2022-23, the authority has already achieved its highest ever revenue and generated ₹1,900 crore for the government.
The money generated from the sale of railway land will be used for the modernisation of railway stations across the country.
"We have recently sold land in Kolkata for around ₹380 crore, while similar large parcels in Bangalore and Ludhiana have also been sold. We are unlocking the potential of dead assets," said Dudeja. RLDA earned ₹653 crore in fiscal 2021-22.
RLDA, a statutory authority under the Ministry of Railways, is also actively involved in the redevelopment of railway stations.
The Union Cabinet recently approved a plan by Railways to redevelop three major train stations. The total cost of this plan is estimated to be around ₹10,000 crore.
