Canacona municipality to act against illegal tourism trade

Canacona: The Canacona municipal council (CMC) has issued a strong warning to shacks and other tourism businesses operating without obtaining licences from the municipality.
Establishments operating without mandatory licences will face stern action, the municipality has stated.
CMC chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaunkar said that some shacks have already commenced their activities.
“However, it has come to our notice that nearly 50% of the shacks and other establishments involved in tourism activities have also begun operating without obtaining permissions from CMC, amd have not even submitted their files to obtain licences. We will initiate strict action against these establishments,” Naik Gaunkar said.
The chairperson said that CMC stands to lose revenue as the municipality collects garbage generated by these shacks and establishments that are operating illegally.
