Five booked for embezzling 83L of Thane housing society

Thane: A former state cooperative department official and four contractors have been booked for allegedly embezzling Rs 83 lakh of a housing society near Thane’s Majiwada naka.
The FIR was filed on a complaint by a special auditor from the department. Vartak Nagar police said as there were complaints of misappropriation of funds and mismanagement in societies managed by the accused, a probe was ordered.
The accused inflated civic work bills between October 2019 and September 2021, and committed a fraud of collectively Rs 83 lakh,” said a police officer privy to the probe.
