Chandrapur: Three people were critically injured when a loaded truck from Surjagarh iron ore mine in Gadchiroli rammed an autorickshaw, a bicycle, and half a dozen bikes on the state highway in Gondpipri town on Thursday afternoon.
The accident happened near the Old Bus Stand in Gondpipri town when the truck driver lost control over the wheel. He hit the autorickshaw, a bicycle and six bikes before coming to a halt. People claimed the driver was driving the truck at breakneck speed. The three critically injured people were identified as Dhanraj Zade, Maya Zade and Prakash Chudri, while others had a close shave. All the injured were admitted at Gondpipri rural hospital.
A few days back, people had burned 10 trucks transporting ore from Surjagarh mine on Allapalli-Gondpipri Road in Mulchera taluka of Gadchiroli after a truck ran over a woman and left her husband injured. The angry response of the people had left the administration and police department surprised. Even former Union minister of state Hansraj Ahir visited the accident spot and blamed the bad road condition and overloaded trucks from the mine for the accident.
Taking cue from the earlier violent response, tehsildar KD Meshram and PSO Gondpipri Jeewan Rajguru rushed to the spot on Thursday and took the situation under control. There was some tension in the area for some time. Further investigations are underway by Gondpipri police.
