Jaipur: Vehicular congestion between Ambedkar Circle and Sodala will be a thing of past after chief minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the long-pending elevated road on Thursday.
After cutting the ribbon, Gehlot himself travelled on the newly constructed corridor which is second longest in the city. He was accompanied by urban development and housing (UDH) minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal and food, civil supplies minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas.
During the inaugration ceremony, Dhariwal said, the elevated road should be named as 'Bharat Jodo Marg'.
As the road is thrown open, commuters can reach Ajmer Road via Hawa Sadak within 10 minutes after driving at 40km/hr cutting down the existing travel time. The length of the elevated road from Ambedkar Circle to Ajmer Road is 2.80km. Similarly, commuters coming from Ajmer Road can travel on 1.80km elevated stretch constructed between Hawa Sadak to Ambedkar Circle.
A senior Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) official said that the perennial traffic problem on the stretch will come to an end as commuters will fly over seven junctions including Tilak Marg junction, Railway crossing, Civil Lines Circle, Nandpuri Road junction, Chambal Power House junction and Sodala junction, where traffic was tied in knots during the peak hours.
Under the project, four ramps are being constructed for traffic to ascend and descend from the elevated road. Commuters travelling from Ambedkar Circle will have an option to ascend at Nandpuri near Hilton Hotel using the ramp. Similarly, the civic body has constructed the 1.8 km-long elevated structure for commuters plying from Ajmer Road end.
An official said, “As per last survey, 7,135 passenger car units (PCU) pass per hour on the Bhawani Singh Road compared to its capacity of 5,143 PCU. This has increased thrice in the last five years. The elevated road will be a major relief for the commuter. The pillars of the elevated road have a sleek design, which are similar to JJ Flyover in Mumbai. The total cost for this project is Rs 250 crore. Cost for the rest of the projects, to be inaugurated on Thursday – taken together is Rs 222 crores.”
