JAIPUR: A day after a woman was arrested for the murder of her husband, her son was arrested at Merta in Nagaur district on Thursday for being actively involved in the murder. The mother-son duo allegedly committed the murder in their conspiracy to grab the insurance amount of Rs 30 lakh following the man’s death.
While Ravindra Jat, the elder son of the deceased Nema Ram Jat, had told police during preliminary investigations that he was out of the village when his father was found dead, police said his role had appeared suspicious. The 25-year-old confessed his role in the murder under sustained interrogation.
“His role was clear since his mother was arrested on charge of murder. He was trying to mislead us by saying he was not in the village when the murder took place. But our technical surveillance team found that he was at home at the time. He confessed his crime during a stern interrogation and said he had beaten up and strangulated his father to death,” said Nagaur SP Ram Murty Joshi.
Investigations found that Nema Ram’s wife Sharda Devi and their son Ravindra had wanted to grab the insurance claim of Rs 30 lakh which they could get only after Nema Ram’s death, said Joshi.
“They (mother and son) had taken a loan and purchased a tractor with the money but did not want to pay the EMIs of the loan. After the murder, they had used every trick to make the case look like a heart attack,”added Joshi. A local court remanded Sharda Devi to judicial custody on Thursday. Ravindra will be produced in a court on Friday, said an official.
