Ranchi: The anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) of Khunti district has rescued 13 minor boys and girls in a special campaign conducted in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and
Uttar Pradesh over the past 18 days.
The minors were missing for the past one to 10 years.
Among them, three are from Rania police station (PS) area, two each are from Khunti, Arki and Marangdaha police station limits and one is from Saiko PS in Khunti district. Besides, one minor each is from West Singhbhum, Lohardaga and Sahebganj districts.
District child protection officer Md Altaf said, “The children were either rescued directly from the employers or tracked at shelters. Cases have been registered against the employers. More operations would be undertaken.”
The six-member AHTU team comprising members of district police and district child protection unit was formed on the direction of Khunti deputy commissioner Sashi Ranjan to trace the missing minors and arrest the accused persons in the pending cases. The team had left the district on September 15 to carry out the raids.
After rescuing the children, the team produced them before the Children Welfare Committee (CWC) in New Delhi and subsequently before CWC Khunti.
They are being lodged in Sahyog village Khunti while the administration is taking steps to rehabilitate them under various welfare schemes.
