Ambeghat murder: Postmortem reveals victim was pregnant
Margao: The postmortem of the skeletal remains of the body found at Ambeghat, Sanguem, has revealed that the deceased woman was pregnant at the time of her death and that she was in the age group of 18-22 years.
Police also said that the postmortem report revealed that the cause of death of the unidentified woman was strangulation.
Quepem police have booked the case as murder under Section 302 and for causing disappearance of evidence under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police surmise that the girl was murdered elsewhere and that the body was dumped in the Ambeghat jungle in a bid to destroy any evidence.
Police have been left baffled over the turn of events. As the body has been reduced to a skeleton, establishing the identity of the victim is an uphill task.
“Unless somebody comes forward to claim the body, the identity of the woman is difficult to be established,” a police source said.
Late Wednesday night, Quepem police had recovered the skeletal remains of a human body wrapped in a plastic bag in the forest of Ambeghat on the road leading to Canacona from Netravali.
Forensic examination later confirmed the body to be that of a female. The body was found in a mutilated and decomposed condition.
A person passing by that road on Wednesday afternoon had spotted the bag containing the skeletal remains lying on the roadside, and informed the police.
Police suspect the woman may have died nearly a month ago. However, as the area is located in a dense forest, away from human habitation, the recovery of the skeletal remains has baffled locals.
