Uddhav targets ‘traitors’, Shinde defends PM, Shah

Targeting the BJP’s central leadership as much as the breakaway Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde in his Dussehra speech, Uddhav Thackeray said he did not need “lessons on Hindutva” from those who invoked it when it suited them. He recalled Shinde’s stint as a cabinet minister in the coalition government that included Congress and NCP and referred to visits to Pakistan by PM Modi and L K Advani to underscore his point. “BJP leaders visited (then Pakistan PM) Nawaz Sharif on his birthday without invitation, to eat cake, and bowed before Jinnah’s grave. BJP raises the Hindutva issue to divert attention from poverty, unemployment and inflation,” he said. Referring to Shinde, he said, “You are now saying you joined hands with BJP for Hindutva and because Shiv Sena left Hindutva by joining hands with Congress and NCP, but when I took oath as CM, you also took oath as a minister and were in government for 2. 5 years. Why didn’t you raise your voice then? Did you forget your Hindutva then?”
