Will make Goa edu, knowledge hub: CM
Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the state government in a bid to generate employment in the IT sector is working towards creating a talent pool to attract sofware companies to the state. The state is also looking to attract investment in the education sector with the goal to become one of the education and knowledge hubs of the country, Sawant said.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s education sector has seen a big revolution and we are committed to bing a part of it. We are committed to bring in more investment into the education sector and IT and knowledge services in order to create jobs for Goans without using the natural resources or creating pollution,” he said.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and India’s top skilled start-ups to provide various opportunities to students of Goa in the presence of the chief minister.
After signing the MoU, Sawant said the Newton School will provide advanced training in coding and robotics for students at various colleges in the state. The school will conduct a free boot camp for interested students and select 250 most eligible students and will provide them with intensive training for six months. “This will make them eligible for 1,000 jobs in IT companies across India,” the chief minister said.
He said that Ullu will conduct programmes in music, content writing and filmmaking. “Entertainment industry is growing in India and this programme will help students to become part of the industry.” Sawant said that Entri will focus on rural students and teach them coding in Konkani and teach them English to make it easier for them to get jobs. NavGurukul will establish a campus in Goa and provide training to underprivileged girl students from rural areas.
“Even if a student has quit education at school-level due to personal difficulties, the student can join the programme and stand the chance of getting a very good job. Under this programme we want to train thousands of students,” he said.
Sawant said that Goan youth are looking only for government jobs. “The government is trying to get non-polluting industries in the state. We have spoken to many large software companies to establish their offices in Goa, but they have established offices in Bengaluru and Hyderabad due to the talent pool available there. We are striving to build our own talent pool to make Goa an attractive destination for these companies,” he said.
The chief minister said that this programme is targeted at youth who have completed education and are still unemployed.
