JAIPUR: The Muhana police on Wednesday arrested three accused for their alleged involvement in pushing off a 43-year-old woman from her scooter while trying to snatch her purse in Muhana on Tuesday. SHO (Muhana) Lakhan Singh Khatana said that the accused were identified as Ajay Meena (19), Tanay Jangid (19), and Aman Sharma (19).
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when Minakshi Shrivastava was riding pillion on her husband's scooter. Two bike-borne snatchers intercepted the couple and tried to snatch the woman's purse. Shrivastava tried to ward off the accused. Caught off guard by the resistance, the accused angrily pushed her due to which she fell off the moving scooter and landed on the road.
Shrivastava sustained multiple injuries on her face and head. Her husband rushed her to the hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
Khatana said that the police scanned over 200 CCTVs around the area and detained multiple suspects who have a history of involvement in snatching incidents. "We first arrested Meena and Jangid. Sharma was arrested for harbouring the two accused," he said.
He said that the accused carry out snatchings to pay for their drug addictions. "The accused carry out recces in the markets to select their targets. They follow their targets on a bike and snatch the purse or mobile phone before fleeing," Khatana said, adding that the accused are being interrogated to examine their previous record. The chain and purse snatching has long been hounding the city, despite the police claiming to have launched crackdowns in the past. "The urban gangs forge new alliances after the walk out of the jail," said an official on the condition of anonymity.
