Coimbatore: The Variety Hall police on Tuesday arrested an employee of a Bengaluru-based jewellery outlet for decamping with 13.5kg of gold ornaments worth 6 crore.
K Hanuman Thivesi, 32, a native of Pali district in Rajasthan, was the marketing manager of Anmole Jewellery, a wholesale store in Bengaluru. “He was tasked with delivering 15.5kg of gold ornaments to Coimbatore-based jewellery shops. Since the ornaments were not delivered, he had to return them to Anmole Jewellery through a security company in a stipulated time. But he returned only 2kg of gold ornaments and escaped with the remaining ornaments,” a police officer said.
N Chhaganlal Khatri, 69, the owner of Anmole Jewellery, came to the city on Sunday to inquire about the unreturned ornaments and learnt that Thivesi had stolen them. Then he registered a complaint with police, who filed a case under sections 408 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
“A police team conducted an inquiry and arrested Hanuman Thivesi from a hideout in the city. We could not retrieve the ornaments as Thivesi had handed them over to his friend Thalpath Sing in Rajasthan,” the officer added.
The team is now working to retrieve the ornaments.
