Gold worth 3 crore seized from Singapore passenger at Coimbatore International Airport

COIMBATORE: The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) on Monday seized 5.6kg of gold jewellery worth 2.94 crore from two passengers who landed at the Coimbatore International Airport from Singapore.
DRI sleuths confronted Mohammed Afzal, 32, of Chennai and Krishnan, 66, of Trichy, who were on Scoot Airlines, after receiving a tip-off.
“The duo had concealed gold chains in pant pockets, underwear and baggage. They were arrested. Krishnan was granted bail as the value of gold he smuggled was less than 1 crore. Mohammed was produced before a judicial magistrate and lodged in prison,” an official said.
