NOIDA: A man was arrested on Wednesday after his wife was found hanging from a ceiling fan in their house in Ecotech 3 area of Greater Noida on October 3. The woman's family has alleged that the 19-year-old was being harassed for dowry by her husband and in-laws.
The accused, identified as Kaluram, was a resident of Bulandshahr and was currently residing in the Ecotech-3 area.
"The woman was found hanging at their rented house on Monday. Preliminary investigations suggest a case of suicide. However, based on the complaint lodged by the woman's family, her husband and in-laws have been booked under sections of dowry death and other relevant sections of IPC. Her family alleged that she was harassed for dowry," Manoj Rathi, sub-inspector at Ecotech-3 police station, said.
"While the reason for her death is unknown, prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. However, the family members of the woman have filed a complaint alleging that her husband and in-laws killed her," Rathi added.
Police have registered a case under IPC sections 304b (dowry death), 498 (enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) along with the Dowry Prohibition Act.
"We have arrested the woman's husband from the Kulesara area. He was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody while two more people are named in the FIR. Teams are working to nab them," Rathi said.
