Cuncolim bypass must not damage houses: Yuri to govt
Margao: Opposition leader and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao on Tuesday demanded that the government ensure the proposed alignment of the bypass road on NH66 passing through Cuncolim doesn’t cause any damage to people’s houses.
“The idea of the bypass is to avoid damage and destruction of houses and also to create safety and security for the lives of people. The proposed option three of the bypass for NH66 should not cause any damage to houses,” Alemao stated in a press statement.
He said that some residents of Cuncolim met him on Tuesday expressing apprehensions about losing their homes due to the proposed bypass.
“As per the reply to my legislative Assembly question on July 15 the government has stated that a survey will be conducted to determine the number of houses to be affected by the proposed bypass. (As per the reply) the survey will also determine route location, length/distance, estimated cost etc. I will hold a meeting with senior PWD officials to understand the proposed option three for which funds are allocated,” Alemao said.
He said that alternative routes were proposed to the government with an intention of saving houses. “The route running parallel to Konkan Railway tracks still exists in the regional plan.”
