PRAYAGRAJ: Over 2,500 idols of
Goddess Durga will be immersed in bigger ponds being created and maintained by district administration in Andhawa, Phaphamau, Bharatganj, Puramufti and Shringverpur.
A team of senior police and administrative officials on Monday reviewed the arrangements for the immersion of idols and ensured that elaborate security arrangements would be in place to check any untoward incident.
Senior superintendent of police (Prayagraj) Shailesh Kumar Pandey told TOI, "Elaborate security arrangements are being made for the immersion of idols at five identified pockets of the district including trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna."
"While the highest number of 1,400 idols will be immersed at Andhawa (Jhunsi), 700 idols will also be immersed in a big sine pond at Bharatganj," he added.
Similarly, idols ranging from 150 to 350 will also be immersed at ponds being set up at Puramufti, Shringverpur and Phaphamau.
Moreover, duties of senior rank police ( DSPs) and administrative officals (ACMs) would be assigned for smooth immersion of idols.
DM (Prayagraj) Sanjay Kumar Khatri also inspected the sites and reviewed the arrangements.
Since majority of idols from city areas are being immersed at Andhawa pond, adequate police forces would be deployed for free flow of traffic and there would be separate entry and exit points. Duties of swimmers would also be assigned.
Besides, arrangements are also being made to ensure that devotees do not face any inconvenience, said SSP.
