Ahead of defence Expo 2022, DRDO tested 3 unmanned remotely controlled weaponised boats in Pune. These boats have been developed by DRDO in collaboration with private defence manufacturing start-up Sagar Defence Engineering. The boats are useful for surveillance purposes, patrolling, and reconnaissance overall maritime security. The boat mainly eliminates the risk of any loss of human lives as the boats are unmanned. On technical aspects, the boats have the endurance of around 4 hrs, varying from different variants. Currently, the boat can sail max at the speed of 10 nautical miles/hr but it can be further increased to 25 nautical miles. Some variants of these boats use an electric propulsion system with lithium batteries while some have on board engine which uses petrol.
