PATNA: Despite the tight security owing to festivities across the state capital, two persons were shot dead by unidentified miscreants in separate incidents in Maner area in last 24-hours.
A 22-year-old man was gunned down by criminals near a plywood factory in Dost Nagar under Maner police station area, on late Sunday night. The police said the youth died on his way to the hospital. The deceased was identified as Manish Kumar, son of Awadhesh Rai, a resident of Brahmachari.
The incident took place around 10pm, when Manish had gone out to visit a Pandal near his house on the occasion of Saptami. Four miscreants on two bikes ambushed him and shot the man three times in the chest, who died on the spot. After carrying out the incident, all the criminals fled on their motorcycles. On being informed, Maner police reached the spot and sent the body for the post-mortem.
In another incident, a 60-year-old Arvind Singh was shot by two unidentified criminals when he was returning home around 12 midnight after taking part in a bhajan programme at a Durga Puja pandal at Tilhari under Tajpur police station. His family members found his body near the pandal in Tajpur. According to police, he died of excessive bleeding and delay in medical help as locals could not hear the gunshot because of loud-speakers.
Maner SHO Rajiv Ranjan said the police have arrested one Vikash Kumar Singh in Tajpur incident and his interrogation was going on. "The separate police teams are probing both the incidents and CCTV cameras of the nearby areas are being scrutinized. The reasons behind the incidents have not been known yet. We are waiting for the family members' statement in both the cases," he told this newspaper.
