State police deploy 11,000 addl forces for puja security
Ranchi: The state police headquarters have deployed around 11,000 additional forces in the districts to maintain law and order and to ensure a smooth traffic movement during Durga Puja.
Sources on Monday said that the districts have been provided 5,866 lathi-wielding personnel, 4,975 homeguards, five units of Rapid Action Police (RAP) and three units of bomb disposal squads. Two RAPs have been deployed in Ranchi district while one each is stationed in Hazaribag, Jamshedpur and Giridih.
In addition to this, around 1,000 police personnel are kept in the reserve at the police headquarters and the deputy inspector general’s offices in Ranchi, Hazaribag, Chaibasa, Bokaro, Palamu and Dumka.
An additional 2,000 forces, including 1,400 lathi-wielding officers and 400 homeguards, have been deployed in Ranchi district.
Ranchi SSP Kishore Kaushal said, “We have components of district police, homeguards and companies of CRPF and the Jharkhand Armed Police.”
Meanwhile, assistant commissioner (excise) Ramlila Rawani said his department has formed two teams to maintain vigil in Ranchi in order to make sure that liquor is not sold on Wednesday.
“The excise department has been keeping a watch on those who have a history of selling illicit liquor. The department has so far nabbed over half a dozen people,” he added.
