Ludhiana: A meeting of Communist Party of India (CPI)’s Ludhiana City Committee was held at Shaheed Karnail Singh Isru Bhavan on Monday. It was presided over by president Comrade Avtar Chhibbar. Party members and office-bearers slammed Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC) for worsening condition of the infrastructure in the city. The party also paid homage to
Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister
Lal Bahadur Shastri, on their birth anniversaries.
CPI’s city committee secretary M S Bhatia, while presenting a detailed report on the issues faced by the citizens said, “The condition of the roads in smart city Ludhiana has gone from bad to worse. Due to encroachment on the roads, the traffic movement has become so bad in the city that even the ambulance and fire brigades do not get a way. If this was not enough, due to absence of auto stands, the three wheelers run in an unorganized manner. It is a matter of great concern that despite collecting huge funds from the public, the MC officials and other authorities are not performing even their basic duties.”
According to party’s assistant secretary
Vijay Kumar, “Even after a small rain shower, the streets and roads of Ludhiana get flooded and despite having a large number of industrial establishments and factories in the city, the absence of residential colonies for the economically weaker sections is a matter of concern for all. Therefore we demand that civic authorities should start performing their duty with honesty and dedication. CPI will soon conduct meetings in different wards to bring the people together to solve these issues and a campaign will be launched in the city.”Party's National Council member Dr Arun Mitra explained the political situation of the country in detail and warned about the dangers of Centre government dividing the country along communal lines.
