YAMUNANAGAR: Two persons were killed after allegedly being hit by a sand-laden truck near Sarawan village on Dosarka-Sadhaura road at about 7.30am in Yamunanagar district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Sachin (19) and his friend Kamaljit (22).
The accident caused resentment among the family members of the deceased and villagers, who set the truck on fire and blocked Dosarka-Sadhaura road at about 8.30am.
Meanwhile, on the complaint of Gaurav of Sarawan village, the brother of deceased Sachin, the Yamunanagar police have registered a case against the unidentified driver at Sadhaura police station.
In his complaint, Gaurav said Sachin and Kamaljit had come on their motorcycle at Sarawan bus stop T-point on Pabni road, when a rashly driven truck coming from Sadhaura side hit them. Both died on the spot.
As the news of two youths of the village getting killed in an accident spread, the villagers gathered in large numbers and in protest they set the truck on fire and blocked the road.
The administration swung into action on receiving information, after which, Bilaspur SDM Jaspal Singh Gill, Yamunanagar DSP Pramod Kumar and Bilaspur DSP Jitender Kumar reached the spot and attempted to pacify the protesting villagers, but they did not lift road blockade.
Bilaspur SDM Jaspal Singh Gill said that protesting villagers who blocked the road demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation for families of each of the deceased, government jobs, registration of case against truck driver and construction of speed-breakers on the road besides other demands. The SDM said that a case was registered against the driver and speed-breakers would be constructed.
“DC (Yamunanagar) Rahul Hooda would recommend the case for government jobs to kin of both the families to the state government. We would provide support for compensation from the concerned department”, said SDM Jaspal Singh.
To a query, SDM Bilaspur said that the truck was loaded with sand as per legal process and documents related to procurement were there.
