Farmers seek govt help to fill up lake
Erode: Farmers from Ammapettai here have urged the district administration to take steps to connect the Karadipattiyur lake in their locality with the Cauvery so that it can fill up when water reaches a certain level in the river.
Farmers said the lake, which is spread over 50 acres, last reached its full capacity in 1995. “Other lakes in the region are getting filled up when rainfall is sufficient. Around 2,000 acres of farmland depend on the lake for irrigation. The groundwater level in the area has fallen down as there is not enough water for recharge. So the district administration should take steps to fill up the lake whenever there is sufficient water in the Cauvery,” said M Selvaraj, a farmer. tnn
