
Mumbai, Maharashtra News Live Updates, Anil Deshmukh plea: For first time since the Shiv Sena’s inception 56 years ago, two Dussehra rallies will be held in Mumbai on Wednesday by the party’s rival factions — led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his predecessor Uddhav Thackeray — in what is being billed as a show of strength by both camps after a change in government in June. While the Uddhav Thackeray faction will hold its rally at the historic Shivaji Park in Dadar in central Mumbai, a venue associated with the Shiv Sena since its inception in 1966, the group led by Shinde has organised their event at the MMRDA ground at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in the suburbs.

In other news, a single-judge bench of Justice N J Jamadar of the Bombay High Court granted bail plea to former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh in money laundering case lodged by Enforcement Directorate (ED). While Deshmukh is granted bail in ED case, he’s still in custody in connection with CBI case. The Court said bail order shall become effective from October 13.
Meanwhile, before the Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation (BMC) elections in Mumbai, the bypolls of Andheri East legislative Assembly constituency on November 3 will be the first litmus test for the former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. The Election Commission of India (EC) on Monday announced the date for the bypolls to the Andheri (East) Assembly constituency in Mumbai, the first election in the city after the split in the Shiv Sena and fall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.
Preparations are underway at the MMRDA ground in BKC, where Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will address the crowds on the occasion of Dussehra.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leaders and workers prepared the Shivaji Park in Dadar, where former CM Uddhav Thackeray will address a Dussehra rally.
Ahead of their Dussehra rallies, the two factions of Shiv Sena, led by former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, have been engaging in a ‘video war’ with both sides portraying themselves as the true heirs of Sena founder Bal Thackeray’s legacy.
While the BKC rally bhy Shinde is scheduled to commence at 5 pm, the Shivaji Park rally led by Thackeray will begin at 6.30 pm

With the city set to see the end of the Durga Puja festival on Wednesday, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari offered prayers at Banga Maitri Sansad's 75th year of Sarbajanin Durga Puja.

The Navi Mumbai police have initiated a probe after a dog was seen carrying a human skull in the MIDC area of Mahape. Although the police believe that the dog has got the skull from a crematorium nearby, they have recovered it and sent it for forensic examination.
According to the police officials, the probe was launched after police were informed about a human skull found near Mahape. "One of the employees of the company informed us about it after which we recovered it and sent it for forensic examinations," said senior police inspector Sudhir Patil of Rabale MIDC police station.
He further said, "When we scrutinised the CCTV footage of the company premises, we came to know that the dog was roaming with it three days ago. We are also checking whether any unknown body is dumped in the nearby areas."
A direct flight from Kolhapur to Mumbai today was inaugurated on Tuesday. This flight has been launched under the ambitious Regional Connectivity Service UDAN scheme of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to provide air connectivity to tier-2 and tier -3 cities and affordable air travel for all.
The flight will operate between Kolhapur and Mumbai thrice a week - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It will depart from Mumbai at 10.30 am and will reach Kolhapur at 11.25 am and it will leave Kolhapur at 11.50 am reach Mumbai again at 12.45 pm.

A 56-year-old man has been traced and arrested by Powai police for allegedly murdering a 75-year-old security guard of an open plot in Powai because the latter had asked him not to come to the plot for consuming alcohol.
The deceased Limbaji Kamble, 75, was working as a security guard at the open plot, owned by a private builder, near Hiranandani hospital in Powai. The arrested accused Hari Dengle and Limbaji knew each other and both were residents of a chawl next to the open plot.
The two often mingled together and Dengle used to go to the plot to consume liquor. Kamble had asked him not to come to the plot to consume alcohol which had irked Dengle. Around 4 am on Tuesday, Dengle assaulted Kamble with wooden sticks leading to his death.
With Mumbaiset to celebrate Dussehra and Goddess Durga's immersion on Wednesday, the Railway Police Force (RPF) has made arrangements to ensure that any unforeseen incident does not occurat railway stations and foot over bridges.
The RPF has deployed staff at sensitive locations so to manage the crowd disbursement to prevent any unforeseen incidents. Also, anti sabotage checks have been intensified in coordination with dog squad and GRP in all the stations.
515 RPF staff, along with GRP staff, will be deployed for the day in suburban stations of the division. CCTV footages will be monitored by trained staff under the supervision of officers to keep a tab on the crowd as well as for suspicious activities. Proper announcements will be made to alert passengers for crowd control and keeping themselves away from suspicious items.

The custody of the four Italians, who have been accused of defacing metro premises in Ahmedabad and Metro, has been taken by the MHB Colony police. They were brought back to Mumbai from Gujarat and produced before a magistrate court on Tuesday. They have been remanded to police custody.
They were carrying two bags and a rod when they trespassed into the Charkop metro depot around 4.30 am on September 26. The police said they were dressed in black clothes and had covered their faces with masks creating a security scare.

The lawyers of former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh are likely to move a bail plea in a CBI case in a special Court this weekend. Deshmukh was granted bail on Tuesday by the Bombay High Court in a money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate
"We have been saying from Day 1 that allegations levelled against Anil Deshmukh are false and made to frame our leader. We believe in judiciary and thank the court for granting bail to Deshmukh," NCP chief spokesperson Mahesh Tapase said.
