SAMBALPUR: Following encouraging response to the first Mission Shakti Cafe at Jawahar Udyan near the Hirakud reservior, the district administration had launched a second unit near the planetarium in Burla.
Sources said the cafe near Hirakud, which was inaugurated on September 1, is being managed by Tejaswini Area Level Federation and makes a daily turnover of Rs 5,000. Besides the regular sales, the cafe is also getting catering orders. And considering the response to the cafe near Hirakud, the second one was opened on Sunday. The cafe at Burla is being run and managed by Sai self-help group.
Subhankar Mohanty, the enforcement officer at Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC), said, "Like the Cafe in Hirakud, the one in Burla is also selling various food items. The SMC is providing support like skill development training, packaging, branding, accounting and how to provide service to members of the SHG to help them in their business. This apart, to promote sales, it has been decided to order food items from the Mission Shakti cafes at government meetings."
"Like Hirakud, Burla also attracts a large number of tourists. Besides, there are many educational institutions in Burla. The Mission Shakti Cafe at Burla will certainly make good business, he added."
There is also plan to open a Mission Shakti Cafe at the Burdharaja hilltop, which is another tourist attraction in the city. "We are in the process of selecting the SHG for opening the cafe," Mohanty said.
