LUDHIANA: Leaving behind a trail of memories for all the participants, students and teachers, the Punjab University (PU) zonal Youth and Heritage Festival concluded on Monday at Mata Ganga Khalsa College, Manji Sahib, Kottan. In the fest, the overall final round was won by Anglo Sanskrit (AS) College, Khanna for the glorious performances by its students. SCD Government College stood second and Arya College stood third on the final day of the fest.
A spectacular extravaganza of Punjabi folk culture marked the conclusion of this four-day-long fest.
Monday also witnessed women’s traditional folk songs and dances, including jhoomar, sammi, luddi and giddha, which stole the spotlight. These youth festivals provide an opportunity to the students to emerge as dancers, actors, poets and writers. Rupinder Rupi, a Punjabi actress was the chief guest for the morning session.
Khalsa college principal Kuldip Kaur Dhaliwal said, “Cultural presentations exhibit the zeal, capability and extraordinary talent of the youth, and these festivals channelise their potential. The first position holder must now gird up their loins for the Inter-Zonal Youth festival.”
Final day’s winnersIn instrumental music percussion, Fatehbir Singh of SCD Govt College stood first, followed by Gurtej Singh of Arya College and Harjit Singh of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha.
In non-percussion, Hemant Singh of Arya College stood first, Manjinder Singh of SCD Government College stood second, and Jasnoorpreet Singh of GNN Khalsa College stood third.
In Indian orchestra, SCD Government College stood first and Guru Nanak National College, Doraha stood second. As far as individual prizes are concerned, Amrinder Singh of SCD secured first position and second position was jointly shared by Rupinder Singh of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha and Jaskaran Singh of SCD Government College. Third position was bagged by Manmeet Singh of Guru Nanak National College, Doraha.
In skit, Shree Atam Vallabh Jain College stood first, GGN Khalsa College stood second, and SCD Government College stood third.
In mimicry, Arya College stood first, followed by Sri Aurobindo College and AS College, Khanna. Individual prizes in mimicry were bagged by Muskan Karval of Arya College, Shreya Sharma of Sri Aurobindo College, and Anurag Shahi of AS College, Khanna.
In folk instrument, Maninder Singh of AS College, Khanna bagged the first position. In bhand too, AS College won the first prize. While in mime, Shree Atam Vallabh Jain College stood first.
In rangoli, Rohit Kumar and gautam jain, both from Shree Atam Vallabh Jain College got the first and second positions, respectively.
