Synopsis

Fans complain that some scenes in the 'House of the Dragon' are too dark to watch, but HBO has defended the lighting by calling it an 'intentional creative decision’.

ET Spotlight Special
As the seventh episode of the 'House of the Dragon' featured very dimly lit scenes, the move triggered complaints from the fans. Similar complaints were also raised during the final season of 'Game of Thrones' during 'The Long Night' episode. That episode of 'Game of Thrones and episode seven of 'House of the Dragon' was directed by the same person, Emmy winner Miguel Sapochnik.

Complaints and HBO's Reply

Fans expressed their frustration on Twitter by saying that scenes from the 'House of the Dragon' were too dark to see. One of the HBO social media accounts defended the dark moments in the episode by describing them as an intentional creative decision. HBO also appreciated that fans were reaching out to them about the night scene in episode 7 of the ‘House of the Dragon’ in reply to a fan asking for a written apology for a whole episode of black screen. HBO replied that it was a creative decision despite fans claiming that the episode was unwatchable.

The director Miguel Sapochnik is not new to such criticism as he also faced outrage over the 'The Long Night' episode. He defended his choice of dim lighting as a part of what the show needed.
