Thiruvananthapuram: The condition of Sasidharan Nair, who set an aged couple on fire on Saturday, remained critical at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital (TMCH) ICU on Sunday.
The 75-year-old ex-serviceman set ablaze Prabhakara Kurup (67) of Kochalummoodu in Madavoor, and his wife Vimaladevi (64) after barging into their house.
Kurup died at the spot and Vimaladevi died at TMCH.
“We have arranged police surveillance outside the ICU. He sustained 60% burns. Police could not initiate any proceedings so far but have registered a case under Section 302 of IPC for the murder. The motive behind the murder can be confirmed only after questioning him,” said Pallickal police station house officer Sreejesh V K.
Meanwhile, the bodies of Kurup and his wife were cremated at their house at Madavoor on Sunday evening.
Wanted UP native held: The Fort police arrested the Uttar Pradesh native who had escaped from the police by pointing a gun at them after a robbery attempt on August 22. Muhammed Shameem Ansari (28), a native of Seelampur in UP, was arrested from his house and he will be brought to the district on Monday. He along with another person tried to rob the house of Malayinkeezhu HSS principal Sindhu. Seeing the robbery attempt, a man tried to block them. They escaped from the spot after pointing a gun at him. They also escaped from Vanchiyoor police in the same manner when they tried to arrest them. Following the incident, the police searched the house in which they were living on rent at Vanchiyoor and found their ID cards.
Police later traced them and also found that the arrested is an accused in many cases at Museum and Fort stations. He is also an accused in murder cases in UP and Delhi. Police also got clues of other members in the gang.
