Reliance-Jio is all set to launch a budget laptop priced at 184 dollars (Rs. 15,000) which would be 4G enabled, aiming to replicate the success of its low-cost JioPhone.
The firm has partnered with Qualcomm and Microsoft for the JioBook, wherein the former firm would power its computing chips based on technology from Arm Ltd, and the later firm would provide support for some apps.
The JioBook will be produced locally by Flex, contract manufacturer, aiming to sell "hundreds of thousands" of units by March, as per sources.
The overall PC shipments in India stood at 14.8 million units last year, which was led by HP, Dell and Lenovo, as per an IDC report. JioBook launch will extend the total addressable laptop market segment by at least 15 per cent, as per reports.
